Behind the Song:
Never Gonna Fade Away

"For all the promises of God are YES and Amen." (2 Corinthians 1:20)

"God is not a man that He would lie."
(Numbers 23:19)

"The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the Word of the Lord stands forever."
(Isaiah 40:8)

"I've got one glass slipper on my foot, and I can't see the last page of this book."

February has arrived, my friends. And with it shall come the Hallmark holiday that couples adore, and singles abhor. Valentine's Day.

As a 23-year-old who is patiently (or on some days, not so patiently!) waiting for her prince to come, I often feel like Cinderella walking around with one glass slipper. "Who has the missing shoe?" I ask myself, glancing around, wondering if my future husband has mistakenly forgotten to come find me.

"I've been waiting just long enough, to doubt faith, hope, and pixie dust..."

As humans, it seems like we're always waiting for something. Waiting for prayers to be answered. Waiting for promises to be fulfilled. Waiting for our emotional needs to be met by a hunky guy who -

WAIT. Did I just say that out loud?!

Girls, let's be real. It's what everybody's thinking but nobody's saying. It's the reason we lament over our singlehood and think there's something wrong with us because nobody's asked us out on a date. If we get right down to the core issue, we're all wanting our emotional needs to be met by some superman. NEWS-FLASH: Superman doesn't exist. Earthly princes are feeble and week, and no matter how sparkly their armor is, they cannot love us with the same amount of passion and selfless abandonment that Jesus does. The deep, emotional needs that we carry, such as wanting to be loved, encouraged, applauded, and reaffirmed, were given to us with the purpose of creating a desperate longing for JESUS, His love, and His presence.

"I've seen castles fall to the ground, and I've seen prince's stumble around. I cannot trust in feeble man who like the grass he can barely stand."

As much as I love the purity, waiting, no dating movement, I can't help but notice that some of these teachings place a huge emphasis on how blissfully happy you're going to be when you finally meet the one. And while it is true that if you do things God's way, and choose a path of purity and patience, that He WILL reward you and bless your marriage. But we need to remember, as amazing as our future husbands will be, they are not going to be perfect. Placing all of our hope and expectation in man is only setting ourselves up for disappointment.

So I want to encourage you, in your season of singleness, FIX your eyes upon Jesus. It's completely okay to be excitedly looking forward to the future with your someday husband, but don't depend on that to meet all of your needs. If you enter into dating and marriage with a needs centered "me" focus, you're not going to be able to love him with the selfless love that  God desires to pour through you.

The bottom line? If you're not depending on Jesus RIGHT NOW to love, encourage, affirm, comfort, uplift, and strengthen you...you're not going to do so when you're married either. Whatever inner battles you're fighting at this point in your life, aren't going to magically vanish the day you say "I Do."  So dare to deal with those challenging issues right now, that way you don't have to carry them into your marriage later.

The world would like us to think that falling in love with an earthly prince is the answer to everything. The music, movies, and TV shows that they present to us surely cause us to think so! They attach lovely treats like chocolate and flowers to the idea, causing us to drool even more. But for us, as Christians, we know the true meaning and definition of love. We get to experience the most RADICAL love in the universe, every single day! We have no reason to lament or despair, because we are completely adored and treasured by the King of Kings!

His Word promises that He has always loved us, and He will NEVER stop loving us!

"I have loved you with an everlasting love. With loving kindness I have drawn you." (Jeremiah 31:3)

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will NOT be shaken." (Isaiah 54:10)

"As the Father has loved me, so I have love you..." (John 15:9)

His Word is LOADED with these precious truths and unfailing promises. In the midst of so much darkness and chaos, His Word stands true. His love. His heart. His faithfulness. The way that He feels about you, it is never going to weaken.

His love is never going to fade away.
